News, Announcements and Winners! | Child and Baby Photographer Werribee, Melbourne.

I am ever so happy and proud to announce that one of my beautiful family portraits earnt a Silver Award (80 – 84 points) at this years Australian Professional Photography Awards held over the weekend. I really believed in this print from the beginning so to see it awarded was a wonderful moment. It’s not your ‘standard’ family portrait, in fact I think this family broke nearly all the ‘rules’  of portraiture which is what I love the most about them – you can view their blog post here (click to open).

As an Emerging Member of the AIPP I felt it was time to take a leap of faith with my work this year and so I entered 3 of my images to be judged at both State and National levels. It’s really exciting and nerve wracking to put your heart and soul out their on the line to be judged and critiqued by some of Australia’s most prominent and esteemed photographers. The learning you take away from simply submitting your prints  far outweighs any awards that may be won at the time. All I was hoping for were for my prints to simply be scored as being at professional standard (71 – 79 points) so to have one awarded was mind blowing to say the least.

Now print judging isn’t like the Olympics and medals are not handed out for Gold, Silver and Bronze – your print is turned in front of a judging panel consisting of 4 people. Each judge studies your print up nice and close, then scores it out of 100. You are then given your final score based on average or majority scores.

Below are my beautiful prints and their subsequent scores, starting with my Silver Award print. I will now be submitting my portfolio to the AIPP to apply to become a fully accredited member.
